This is one of the best parts of Route 66 in the west. There is no other road on the planet that can say it helped discover another planet , which is Pluto. The night time sky on Route 66 is already remarkable all along the route but there is no other place that can come close. The Time 100 Most Important places to visit in the world is in Flagstaff which is the Lowell Observatory which is located actually directly off Route 66 in downtown Flagstaff on top of the mountain. This is a remarkable stop because of so much that makes this up. The idea of packing a lunch and taking a break looking down at all of Route 66 in Flagstaff is a memory and moment you can’t pass up.
Lowell Observatory just recently opened its new Astrological Center which has some of the best family friendly exhibits. This isn’t the big one though, they are opening now a much bigger exhibit and room dedicated to the Route 66 Centennial. This room will include an original and authentic car which is one of the original ones that has been there for the entire duration of the 100 years of Route 66 in Flagstaff.
Flagstaff is of course the First official International USA Dark Sky City – This is all in part to the Father of Dark Sky Flagstaff – The late Lance Diskan which helped pioneer this for the city. That all said we will continue to update and keep you informed on our Facebook page and also update this page with the proper links once we have them. So get ready to make some Astro Memories on Dark Sky 66!
